New course: C# Fundamentals – Part 2

Scott Allen has just published a new course: C# Fundamentals – Part 2

C# Fundamentals – Part 2 introduces you to the variety of programming styles supported by the C# language. At its core, C# is an object-oriented, statically-typed language that lends itself to procedural and object-oriented programming, but recent additions to the language have made it much easier to develop using other programming paradigms, most notably, dynamic. This course covers object-oriented programming, functional programming, the dynamic language runtime, LINQ programming, and software craftsmanship.

New course: Entity Framework 4.1 – DbContext Data Access

Julie Lerman has just published a new course:                                                                           Entity Framework 4.1 – DbContext Data Access

In addition to the well-publicized Code First approach to database development that the Entity Framework 4.1 provides, it also provides the DbContext API. The DbContext API works with Code First, Database First, and Model First and provides a simplified, productive environment for building all types of data-backed applications.

New course: Extending IIS 7.5 with Modules and Handlers

Robert Boedigheimer has just published a new course:                                                Extending IIS 7.5 with Modules and Handlers

Since IIS 7, the once monolithic web server has been broken up into about 40 components so a web server can be setup with only what it actually needs which reduces its security exposure and memory footprint. The architecture also facilitates replacing built in functionality with our own implementations.

Support for HttpModules and HttpHandlers allow the web server to be extended using familiar managed .NET code rather than the previous ISAPI techiniques that required unmanaged C or C++. Great new diagnostic features allow you to save information about failed requests and to inspect worker processes and active requests running in the web server. Microsoft.Web.Administration can also be used to write managed code that can create IIS web sites, application pools, or virtual directories.

Updated Course: C++ Fundamentals

BUILD Virtual Giveaway on Twitter

This week at BUILD we’re doing something a little different. Instead of doing a giveaway on the exhibit floor, we’re doing a virtual giveaway on Twitter. Anyone attending BUILD in person or online is welcome to participate!

To enter, all you have to do is tweet about a Pluralsight course during the show that will serve as an excellent post-BUILD learning resource (see below for requirements). Pluralsight has released several courses on HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, jQuery, and even C++ and they’re perfect for ramping-up on Windows 8 development!

What can I win?

We’re going to draw three (3) random winners this Friday at the end of the show. Each winner will receive a Pluralsight Annual Plus subscription ($799 value) and the first person we draw will also receive an unlocked Samsung Focus WP7 ($399-499 value).

How do I enter the drawing?

Follow @pluralsight and tweet about a Pluralsight course that ties into a BUILD session you’re attending, thereby letting your friends know how they can learn more after the show. Simply mention @pluralsight and include the #bldwin hashtag in your tweet.

Each time you do, you’ll be entered again. Here’s a sample tweet you can use:
